A star to welcome a newborn

Last updated 1 November 2026

A star named on the day a baby arrives is a present that grows with them. The certificate goes on the nursery wall now; in a few years they can look up and find their own star.

Why it works for a new baby

  • It's theirs from the start. A real star, recorded under their name, registered as they begin.
  • It keeps. Unlike outgrown clothes and toys, the certificate and their star stay with them.
  • It's always there online. From November 2026 each star has its own page here, so the family can look it up and print new copies whenever they like.

Ideas for the name

  • The baby's full name, for a formal certificate
  • Their name and date of birth
  • "Welcome to the world, Oliver"

In the pack

A Certificate of Registry, a Star Area Co-ordinates Sheet, a welcome letter and a fold-out star chart. Grandparents and godparents often give a star as a christening present too.

Finding it together, later

The co-ordinates sheet shows which months the star is highest. Most of our stars need binoculars to see, which makes finding it a lovely thing to do together when they're old enough. How to find a star.
